Andy Gusty
Thank you for your interest in my work! I am an incoming Ph.D. student in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UC San Diego. I recently completed a B.S. in Applied Math and Computer Science at CU Boulder. This summer, I am a researcher in the RIPS program at the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) at UCLA.
I do research in control theory and applied partial differential equations. At CU Boulder, I worked with Professors Emily Jensen and Cody Scarborough in Electrical Engineering on two main research directions: (i) optimal design of nonlinear systems such as soft robots and nonlinear transmission lines and (ii) control synthesis under architectural constraints for large, spatially distributed systems such as power networks and waterways.
This fall, I am excited to join Professor Boris Kramer’s group at UCSD as a PhD student to research reduced-order modeling and control methods for additive manufacturing. I am also grateful to the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program for supporting my PhD work.
